Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information Aligned Law collects when you visit aligned.law, how we use it, and the choices you have. Aligned Law LLC is a solo law practice based in Portland, Oregon. "We" and "us" mean Aligned Law; "you" means anyone visiting this site.

This policy covers the website only. If you become a client of Aligned Law, the information you share with us in the course of representation is governed by the attorney-client relationship, our engagement agreement, and the rules of professional conduct in the relevant jurisdiction—not by this policy.

What we collect

We collect two kinds of information.

The first is information you give us directly. If you email us (whether through a mailto: link on this site or otherwise), we receive your email address, your message, and whatever else you choose to include.

The second is information collected automatically when you visit the site. We use Google Analytics 4, implemented through Google Tag Manager, to understand how visitors find and use the site. Google Analytics sets cookies and collects information like your IP address (truncated by Google before storage), browser type, device type, pages viewed, time on page, and referring website. We do not use Google Analytics to identify individual visitors, and we have configured it not to share data with Google for advertising purposes. We do not use Google Signals or cross-device tracking.

How we use it

We use information you send us to respond to you and, if you become a client or prospective client, to communicate about your matter.

We use the analytics information to understand which content is useful, fix things that aren't working, and decide what to write next. That's it.

How we share it

We don't sell your information. We don't share it with advertisers or data brokers. The only third parties who receive information from this site are:

  • Google, as the provider of Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager, subject to Google's terms and privacy practices.
  • Our website host and email provider, which necessarily process information to deliver the site and our email.
  • Any party we are legally required to disclose information to, such as in response to a subpoena or court order. If that ever happens and we are legally permitted to tell you, we will.

If you become a client, sharing of information about your matter is governed by the rules of professional conduct, not this policy.

Cookies and Do Not Track

This site uses cookies set by Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager. You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings; doing so will not affect your ability to use the site, though it may affect how some pages display.

This site does not respond to Do Not Track signals.

This site may contain links to third-party websites, including LinkedIn. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites and encourage you to review their policies.

Children

This site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, email us at hello@aligned.law and we will delete it.

California residents

California's "Shine the Light" law and CalOPPA give California residents specific rights regarding personal information collected through commercial websites. The categories of personally identifiable information we collect through this site are described above under "What we collect." The categories of third parties we share that information with are described above under "How we share it." To request changes to information you have submitted to us, or to ask questions about our practices, email us at hello@aligned.law.

Aligned Law is not a "business" as defined by the California Consumer Privacy Act and is not subject to its requirements.

Nevada residents

Nevada law gives residents the right to direct certain businesses not to sell their personal information. We do not sell personal information. Nevada residents with questions may contact us at hello@aligned.law.

Security and retention

We take reasonable steps to protect the information we collect, but no website or email system is perfectly secure. We retain information you send us for as long as needed to respond to you and to maintain records appropriate to our practice; analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics' default retention settings (currently 14 months).

Changes

If we change this policy, we will update the effective date at the top. Material changes will be flagged on the site for a reasonable period.
